Shilp Kalaa is an art illustration practice, run and led by Shubhangi Saxena.
Shubhangi is an Indian visual communicator and urban designer currently based in London. Her work resides at the intersection of intricate drawing and a diverse artistic focus, creating a unique dialogue between my image-making practice and the subjects I explore.
Using tools like pens on paper, papermaking, found objects, and visual mark-making, she craft scenes that develop a visually coded language, deeply engaging with themes often centered around natural elements and the lived environments of people. Her process is rooted in active observation, deep seeing, and thorough research, often treating the subject itself as a medium. I find inspiration while walking through streets—eyes wide open, notebook in hand—cataloguing the typologies of patterns at a scale that most may overlook. The core of my practice lies in capturing fascination as a means to convey complex ideas and narratives, drawing people in and inviting meaningful conversations.
